  • Overcoming Childhood Emotional Neglect

    Overcoming Childhood Emotional Neglect

Do you sometimes feel you’re just going through the motions in life alone? Maybe you always act like you’re fine when you secretly feel lonely and disconnected from people? Perhaps, you seem to have a good life, and yet somehow, it’s not enough to make you happy. Or perhaps you engage in weird activities like drinking too much, eating too much, or risking too much, just to feel something good. You may suffer from Childhood Emotional Neglect. If so, you are not alone.

Childhood emotional neglect occurs when a child’s parent or parents fails to respond adequately or promptly to their child’s emotional needs in a loving manner. Emotional neglect may not necessarily be childhood emotional abuse. Abuse is most times an intentional act by the oppressor; it’s a purposeful choice to act in a way that is harmful. However, emotional neglect can be an unintentional disregard for a child’s feelings. It can also be a failure to act or notice a child’s emotional needs.

Parents who emotionally neglect their children may still provide care and basic necessities for the child. They just miss out on or mishandle this one key area of support. They do not think the child really has an emotional need at that age. The parent does not understand that the child has an emotional need to be attended to.

An example of emotional neglect is a child who tells their parent they’re sad about a friend’s attitude at school. The parent ignores it as a childhood game instead of listening and helping the child cope. Over time, the child begins to learn that their emotional needs are not important and then, the child stops seeking support. It may be hard for parents to know they’re doing it. Likewise, it may be difficult for caregivers, such as doctors or teachers, to recognize the subtle signs.

Common signs of childhood emotional neglect in children are:

    Depression

    anxiety

    apathy

    failure to thrive

    hyperactivity

    aggression

    developmental delays

    low self-esteem

    substance misuse

    withdrawing from friends and activities

    appearing uncaring or indifferent

    shunning emotional closeness or intimacy

The effects of emotional neglect in children can be quite subtle and this has been found to be one of the major causes of depression in adults who have experienced childhood emotional neglect. Adults who have experienced childhood emotional neglect find it difficult to handle their emotions. They could also become parents who neglect the emotions of their children as they have not received such love.

Common effects on adults who have experienced childhood emotional neglect:

    post-traumatic stress disorder

    depression

    emotional unavailability

the increasing likelihood for an eating disorder

    shunning intimacy

    feeling deeply, personally flawed

    feeling empty

    poor self-discipline

    guilt and shame

    anger and aggressive behaviors

difficulty trusting others or relying upon anyone else

7 Best ways to overcome childhood emotional neglect as an adult.

Understanding the symptoms of emotional neglect in children can be important to getting the child and parents help. However, many children do not speak out nor receive help until adulthood. Whether you are a teenager or an adult who have experienced childhood neglect, I have good news for you. The good news is that you can overcome and live a happier life.

    1. Recognize and accept God’s love for you.

    Psalm 27:10

“When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.”

Do your feelings hurt because you didn’t receive enough love and care from your parents as a child? Or you feel betrayed by the one who should love you. Here is a healing balm for you. The Lord is a loving father, he can do much more than your earthly parents will do. He loves you and will always care for you. He will take you up(adopt) you as his own child. Know that you are now a joint-heir with Christ. God’s love for you is the utmost.

    2. Forget the past

    Isaiah 43:18-19 CEV

“Forget what happened long ago! Don’t think about the past.

I am creating something new. There it is! Do you see it? I have put roads in deserts, streams in thirsty lands.”

Forgetting the past is one of the best things to do to overcome the emotional neglect or any form of childhood abuse that you have experienced in the past. You don’t have to cling to the things of the past. The past is gone and behind you, it no longer has power over you. Let go of the past, the hurt, the pain the shame, anything you might have experienced. It’s time for a new beginning, you can begin again. God is creating something new for your favor. A new and glorious future. Can’t you see it? There it is, you can have it now. He is sending help to you, turning impossibilities into possibilities. God has your best interest at heart. His plans for you are only good, to give to you the desired future.

Do not be afraid anymore. Let go of the past! Start walking towards the future!

    3. Embrace total dependence on God

    Deuteronomy 32:12-13

“The LORD alone led him, and no foreign god was with him

He made him (Israel) ride on the high places of the earth, And he ate the produce of the field; And He made him suck honey from the rock, And [olive] oil from the flinty rock,”

To overcome the hurts and pains of childhood emotional neglect or abuse, you need to depend on and trust in God absolutely. I know you might find it difficult to trust people or to depend on them because of your past experience. But God is saying, “you can trust me”, “You can depend on him”. He wants you to make him the love of your life, he wants you to give him all the space in your heart. When you make God your all in all, he will lead you through life, he will cause you to walk upon the high places of the earth, he will make impossibilities possible. He will turn your story around and give you a brand-new life.

Would you make him your all in all today?

    4. Have the mind of Christ

    Philippians 2:5

“and think the same way that Christ Jesus thought:”

Ask God to help you handle your emotions aright constantly, by thinking the same way that Christ Jesus thought. Do not be controlled by your feelings of hurt because of childhood emotional neglect. But ask yourself, “how will Jesus think or respond to this kind of situation am in”. Then you do likewise. You should constantly meditate on God’s word, as this will help you align your thoughts and emotions to that of Christ. When you do this, instead of being hurt constantly and depressed, you will lead a happy life.

    5. God has a plan for you

“I will bless you with a future filled with hope–a future of success, not of suffering.”

I know that you have been neglected emotionally and have not received the love and care that you desire whether as a child or an adult. However, I want you to know that God has a plan for your life. You don’t have to live in constant depression or emotional trauma. God wants to bless you with a future filled with hope. He will give you the future that your parents could never give to you. Jesus wants to take away the sufferings and pains as a result of childhood emotional neglect. He wants to make you smile again.

Living a happy and cheerful life will help you to overcome the pains of childhood emotional neglect. You need to make the decision to be happy at all times. Being happy constantly will help you to control your emotions properly, live a healthier life and be productive at work.

    7. Forgive yourself and others

    Matthew 6:15

“But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

You need to forgive yourself, if you are holding some grudges and bitterness against yourself. It is not your fault that you experienced childhood emotional neglect nor is it your parent’s fault. Do not blame yourself for this. Forgive yourself and also your parents so that your heavenly father can also forgive you your sins.

    The bottom line

    Matthew 11:28

“If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest.”

Are you tired of being depressed, bitter, angered, unhappy, and living a life of uncertainty? Come unto Jesus. He will heal your wounds, restore you and give you a new life.

  • 6 ways to maintain peace in the home.

6 ways to maintain peace in the home.

Peace is a state of calmness, quietness, restfulness, and absence of disturbance or war. Creating this sense of calmness and restfulness in the home starts with each partner loving each other. However, maintaining peace requires much work and tasks so that the love can continue to thrive in the family.

Maintaining peace in the home affect the well-being of both partners, even that of the children. A home filled with peace will support the financial growth, emotional healthiness, psychological wellbeing, and even spiritual unity of every member of the family.

Your home should be a place of shelter from the heat and the storm of the outside world, both for you and your spouse. This is one of the major reasons you need to keep your home constantly at peace. We all go through a lot of stress every day and returning to an environment filled with love and tranquility can be a significant stress reliever.

Another reason you need your home to be at peace is so that the Holy Spirit can work in your home. The Holy Spirit wants to abide with you continually, he wants to go through everyday activity with you. Although he lives in your heart, he also wants to live in your home.

You can save your marriage from divorce by maintaining the peace of God in your home.

Here are some tips to maintain peace in your Home

    Colossians 3:13 Berean Study Bible

“Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

    1. Bear with your partner. To bear means to endure, tolerate, stand with, put up with. This is not that you are enduring your marriage. It only means that you recognize and accept the uniqueness of your partner and the difference that you both have. This is why God created you as male and female. Identifying your unique differences will help you to lead a peaceful life.

    2. Forgive Your partner. Consistently forgive your partner of any fault you have against him. This is not because he asked for your forgiveness but because you love the Lord and you desire a peaceful home. Do you need a relationship coach? click here

    3. Avoid criticism or pointing of the finger.

    Romans3:10 KJV

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

Don’t be quick to criticize or to Judge your partner when he/she is at fault. Anyone can be caught up in a fault because there is not a perfect person. Do not talk down to your partner because of his fault, rather, correct and speak the truth in love.

    4. Be selfless. Don’t be selfish.

    Proverbs 18:1 CEV

“It’s selfish and stupid to think only of yourself and to sneer at people who have sense.”

Selfishness is acting in a way that seems favorable to you only, at the expense of others. Think of you to please your partner before yourself. God wants you to lead a selfless life because you will do good to yourself as well. Always consider your words and actions if they will benefit your partner before you act. Find out your partner’s love language and start speaking it to increase peace in your home.

    5. Be Truthful

    Hebrews 4:13 CEV

“Nothing is hidden from God! He sees through everything, and we will have to tell him the truth.”

If you desire a home filled with the peace of God, you must constantly speak the truth in all situations. Speaking the truth will improve the trust and confidence level of your partner towards you. Let no element of falsehood be found in you. You should constantly and consistently speak the truth in love.

    6. Be gentle

    Philippians 4:5 Amplified version

“Let your gentle spirit [your graciousness, unselfishness, mercy, tolerance, and patience] be known to all people. The Lord is near.”

Being aggressive in words and actions is a trigger factor of Anger. Therefore, you must be gentle in spirit. A soft answer turns away wrath… Proverbs 15:1.

Developing a gentle and quiet spirit will help you become a woman of virtue.

Don’t allow the devil to feed you with bad shits when you have the word of God to strengthen your heart.

If you have the thoughts that someone is better than you in an area of life then you will start having feelings of jealousy and envy against that person. But instead, think that you can also be like that person and even better. You should think on how to develop your mind and to acquire the skills that is required to have such achievement.

This will also help you to attract the right kind of people into your life. However, having negative thoughts about yourself or others around you will make you run into isolation and loneliness. You will become suspicious of everyone around you, you will be mean, saucy, critical and hard to relate with. Its wise to make more friends than more enemies. Have thoughts of how to help other around you, how to be a blessing and to sow seeds of love. Then, you will also feel loved, supported and never alone.

  • Purpose for your Gifts and Talents

Purpose for your Gifts and Talents

Gods purpose for your Gifts and Talents is for you to manifest his glory on earth. Would you do that today?

1Corinthians 12:7, “But the manifestation of the spirit is given to everyone to profit withal.”

The expectation of God for giving us spiritual gifts and natural talents is to profit withal as individuals and as a church. He wants us to bear fruits of souls, getting men saved and established in him. Any spiritual gift or natural ability that you possess or manifest which does not profit God and humanity is of no value to God.

The Holy Spirit manifests his Almighty power in us through the special abilities he gives to us which are the spiritual and natural gifts that he has deposited in us.

The manifestations of these gifts show what God can do in us and through us. Therefore, the gifts cannot be effective without the influence or support of the holy spirit who is the giver.

God want you to use your gift and talents no matter how little or insignificant you think it is. Even though, all our gifts and talents are important to God because he has given them to us according to our abilities which he knows we will be able to profit with.

You do not need to envy other person’s gifts and talents. Instead, thank God for the grace he has given to you, find ways on how to develop them and to make good use of them.

God does not want us to live in lack or poverty. His will is for us to prosper and one of the ways in which this can be achieved is by using our gifts and talents. Proverbs 18:16 says, “A man’s gifts opens doors for him and bring him before great men”. You can become prosperous with your gifts easily and faster than with your profession.

However, your gifts and talent can become your profession when you develop it and make efficient use of it. This does not mean that you should pursue the financial or material rewards for making use of your gifts. However, you should use your gifts first to glorify God and bless humanity. Then, the rewards will naturally flow to you.

    4. To worship God

Our gifts and talents should be offered as a sacrifice to God in worship and reverence unto him. You are to acknowledge God has the owner and the giver of the gifts that you possess. By doing this, you will use the gifts for God’s glory.

Furthermore, you are not to become proud nor see yourself better than others because of the gifts of God in your life. Your gifts and talents should be rendered as means of worshipping God. When you do this, God is happy and he receives the glory. Remember, when you bring glory to the father, he will also glorify you. God will announce you and you wouldn’t have to struggle for platforms to make use of your gifts and talent.

    5. To serve God and Humanity

“If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.” John 12:26.

God want you to serve him and humanity with your gifts. Therefore, do not seek to be honored because of your gifts and talents but seek to serve God and humanity with them. Having a heart of a servant will qualify you to be promoted to the position of a leader.

You do not need to seek for fame for God will announce you at the right. Moreover, you must serve faithfully and diligently so that God will honor you.

“Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.” Matthew 20:26. It is God’s will that you should serve him and humanity with your gifts and talents.

Do you think you have special spiritual gifts or physical talents? Its time to start manifesting them.

why wait till another day, when you can start today. The first step to take is to believe in yourself

read this book to know more on how to discover your God’s given gifts and talents.

  • Mother: A Great Confidant

    Mother: A Great Confidant

A confidant is a person with whom one share a secret or private matter while trusting them not to repeat it to others without due permission.

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19

“Her husband has full confidence in her and lack nothing of value” Proverb 31:11

Sometimes, I wonder why my mother had to go through some stuffs in her life. My mother was my confidant till I got married when my husband turned to be my best friend and confidant. My mum had made so much sacrifices for us, endured hard times, all for the sake of her children.

At a time, I had to ask her, why she had to endure so much tough times in her life and relationships. Then, she said, “when you start having children and have a family, you will understand the sacrifices a mother makes. And so, I am now a mom and I understand better just like she said.

Starting from the time of being pregnant, a confidant mother will continually stand in for her family and make sacrifices for them. She is the first true and reliable friend and confidant her child knows. Also, her husband also depends on her to make the home a lovely place to live in. She put on a smile to comfort and encourage others while her heart fights against so much pain and fear. A confidant woman is brave and strong enough to confront anything challenging the peace, safety and progress of her household.

Every woman is a potential mother, because, that is how God created us to be. It is not only a woman who has given birth to her biological children that is a mother. Therefore, every woman with a loving and tender heart is a mother. A mother is sacrificial, she is ready and willing to give her all to her children either biological or not.

    Are all mothers worth celebrating?

You are not a failure even if your child or one of your children has ran away from home, or he/she is into hard drugs, got pregnant as a teenager or couldn’t finish high school. Whatsoever challenges that you are facing as a mother does not define you as a failed parent. I know you have tried your best to make that child come out great in life. Despite all your flaws, you still worth to be celebrated. Even if there’s no one to praise you, I think you should appreciate yourself.

I therefore, celebrate all mothers for the courage to start the journey of motherhood. Thank you for your exceptional courage and bravery. Importantly, I celebrate all adoptive moms, mom to an only child who died suddenly, mom to an only child in prison or on an hospital bed. You are also loved.

A mother is an everywoman and an available mother who is everything she need to be at all time. Her husband and children find solace under her wings. A confidant woman is a diligent and sensitive to the needs of every members of her family.

The home is constantly faced with several challenges from the pit of hell. Therefore, the devil is on the mission to destroy every Godly and loving home and to prevent same from being established. However, God has empowered women as mothers to defend the home with the weapon of prayer and confidence in God’s word.

Therefore, a confidant mother is a woman who fears the Lord, she is prayerful and serve as an intercessor for her family.

Moreover, God has endowed all Godly mothers with the wisdom necessary to run the family and a large heart to demonstrate love. A mother with a large heart and the Love of God is a great confidant who can be trusted by her husband and children. She is not a busy body neither does she have a porous mouth.

Because of her intimate, loving and personal relationship with God, she is able to extend a loving arm of comfort to every member of her family and to persons outside her home. She is dependable, reliable, loyal and Honest.

Even so, her act of love, kindness and simplicity is of a high esteem. A mother who is a confidant, has a virtue of trustworthiness. Her husband and children have confidence in her just like the book of Proverbs says.

A confidant mother is the comfort zone where her husband and children run to from the heat and storm of the outside world. She console and encourage them with the words of her mouth. Her words are filled with wisdom and power because she is the daughter of a King. Her husband has no fear, telling her about his fears and struggles, because she is an encourager and an enabler.  A confidant mother is a virtuous woman with a listening hear and a loving heart.

Just started using this journal after being in a bit of a funk at the start of this year. I have researched many journals, but this was the only one I felt was simple. It didn’t make too many ‘demands’ on my time, that was straightforward, in short, exactly what I was looking for. It’s a simple concept and I’ve only been doing it for a week. The title “GOOD MORNING GOD” caught my attention and drew me to get this journal. It’s my first thought each morning I wake up! I struggle with “praying” in the traditional sense so this journal is where I write down my prayers for the day. I’m severe ADHD so this journal keeps me focused on what and/or who I’m praying for.
It has “prayer” on the 1st page and has “God is good”… on the page parallel to it. I also deal with severe chronic pain so I love the “God is good because “ page, because it helps me start the day with gratitude:) They make GREAT gifts as well! Love it!!

I love this prayer journal! This is my first attempt at a prayer journal and this was a great one to find. I love the prompts on each page to really make you think and reflect. You could really use this however you wanted. Do it by day or for the week. I’m trying to be as specific as possible. I can’t wait to look back and reflect on what God has done. Highly recommend!

This is a simple format. The two pages are repeated throughout the journal, with space for writing answers to prayers, questions, worries, etc. I would like to see a little more variety throughout the journal, but for the price I think it is still worthwhile and a good investment in your prayer life. Back in the summer, my husband purchased me a three-month prayer journal, and I loved it. However, I really enjoy this one even more! You read two sections a week. It has a main scripture and then a reflection on a crucial point to reveal to you and ends with a question. Then there is a spot for you to be interactive and answer questions by writing down your thoughts and feelings. This has really helped me to reflect and reminded me I do have a purpose! Highly recommend almost like a devotional.

I am a God-fearing woman and know that when I worry, even for a second, I’m losing my faith for that moment. And that’s the last thing I want to do is disappoint God. I worry about everything and especially right now with things the way they are. I realize that my worrying doesn’t help anything, it’s out of my control. This book is small enough for me to carry around the house, I know it sounds silly but I carry my iPad and my phone around so why not just carry this around with them? It basically weighs about 4 ounces, if that. When I feel worried, I open it up and read it and it’s seriously lifted a huge weight off of my shoulders and puts me back in peace again. I know that God is there, but sometimes we all need a little of a reminder.

This is a great little book; I will follow this author because obviously, she knows that we are all human and need a little of reassurance once in a while – God is our savior and does not want us to worry. I am going to buy five and send them out with Christmas cards this year to those other God-fearing women that I love, including my sweet grandmother, my mother-in-law as well as a few dear friends of mine.

    9. Trusting God Day by Day by Joyce Meyer

Trusting God is one of the hardest things for us to do as humans. However, God really love it when we trust him for all our needs instead of worrying and being anxious. God want to give us the peace that pass all human understanding when we trust him.

In her dynamic new devotional, Trusting God Day by Day, Joyce Meyer provides you with powerful “starting points” for every day of the year. Each day’s devotion is filled with practical advice and help from Joyce with life-changing promises from God’s Word. The prayer journal is a weapon to daily help you overcome challenges through trusting God. Using this devotional and prayer journal, you will be able to make good choices, battle worry, overcome anxiety and keep a positive attitude in 2021.

    Review

I’m not a big reviewer unless I truly love the item. This devotional is the perfect length for a busy person and helps you view things differently when faced with difficult times. I recently purchased it because of a lack of trust for God due to suffering severe depression and anxiety for many years. Having read almost a months-worth of devotions and really enjoy it. I find that it doesn’t minimize your problems like some devotional can but it just helps you to see them from a different perspective. I will definitely be recommending this to others.

This devotional is perfect for the individual who wants to develop a deeper relationship with God by gradually trusting Him. Many time, we think we know what’s best but that isn’t always the case (at least this is true for me). I have some areas in my life where I can’t handle them alone so I decided to turn to God with them for some help. I’ve only had this devotional for a month and a half and it’s helping me a lot already! I love how a lot of these devotionals are made for busy people who only have a few minutes to read one of these every day and that’s enough to read them.

The devotions are dated, so I just started with the date when I got this in the mail. There are 365 devotions and it would be nice if there was a devotion for February 29th. however, you could remedy that by rereading a previous devotion or skipping ahead to a random one. Each day starts with a theme and a Bible verse that pertains to the devotion’s theme. The bible verses are taken from The Amplified Bible unless otherwise noted.

Then the bulk of the devotion is Joyce’s thoughts and evidence taken from the Bible. This is about how we can change our attitude about casting our cares (October 9th), being a blessing to others (October 6th), and handling whatever life hands us (August 24th), just to name a few. Some of it is her life experience which really helps to put the devotion into perspective. Finally, the devotion ends with a “Trust in Him” section, which gives some questions or statements to think about. I’d say each devotion takes no longer than two or three minutes to read. Especially if you read it at a slower pace to digest it more.

    10. God Hears Her by our daily bread ministries

Women are God’s special creatures with much need for love, attention, care and assurance of well-belonging. We are blessed with such a fragile heart so much that we must be assured that we are loved. The prayer journal God hears her create the awareness of God’s love in every woman. God loves and cares for you and God hears you whenever you call. You have more than someone who cares for you, you have a heavenly father who is always with you. The prayer journal God Hears Her features, 356 daily devotional written by women for women. There are personal stories of compilers, scriptures passages and inspirational quotes.

    Review

So far, so good with this devotional. I love to hear stories from other women that link to real-life situations along with the scriptures. The readings are a suitable length where it doesn’t feel like homework every day. I highly recommend this devotional for those out there looking for a daily read.

You should know what you can do to make your partner happy and feel lovable. This is one of the attitudes that will strengthen your relationship with your spouse and increase its joy. speaking your partner’s love language is one of the major ways to save your marriage from divorce. Nowadays, several couples struggle to make peace, unity, oneness and love abound in their marriages. Most times, they find it difficult to agree on issues that may sometimes be as simple as how to keep the house tidy or who should pay the bills. Also, couples find it difficult to express an unreserved love towards themselves and many times focus their love on some certain things such as beauty, affluence and many others.
